LATEST NEWS .............

At the GCCF Delegates' Meeting on Wednesday 21st February 2007, an amendment to the GCCF Standard of Points for Maine Coons was agreed and will take effect from 1st June 2007.

The standard will enable Maine Coons exhibiting higher levels of white to be shown alongside those already allowed. The new wording regarding Bi-colours (i.e. cats with white) will read:

Any solid, tabby, tortoiseshell, shaded or smoke colour and white. The base colour to be present on head, back (extending down onto sides) and fully coloured tail. On tabby cats, there should be sufficient  base colour to show the pattern. The minimum white permitted is some white to all four paws, underbelly and chest, with some colour allowed to these areas.

The level of allowable white has periodically been discussed within the club for the last 18 years prior to this change taking place. It will enable previously precluded 'higher white' Maine Coon cats to compete in GCCF shows.

Essential information for breeders, exhibitors, judges and show managers - updated 10th May 2007

Following ongoing discussions between GCCF and the Maine Coon Breed Advisory Committee, the MCBAC has now been instructed that the new colour references would be implemented with immediate effect. You can view the full colour reference numbers and descriptions in the Standard of Points. Click here to view.

Here are the changes:

Classic tabbies will all have the reference 64 41 with additional letter(s) to denote colour and if white is present

Mackerel Tabbies will all have the reference 64 44 with additional letter(s) to denote colour and if white is present

Shadeds (both silver and standard) will all have the reference 64 43 with additional letter(s) to denote colour and if white is present

Kittens and cats already GCCF registered with the old system will retain their old number. Owners can change their cat's GCCF reference from the old to the new system, but at their own cost. Please contact GCCF or the club for more information.

Kittens being registered from the current time onwards will have the new reference numbers. If you are unsure what colour reference to use, then enter a detailed description including the pattern on the registration form, e.g. brown classic tabby, blue silver tortie mackerel tabby & white, red silver shaded, etc.

If you have recently sent off a registration form to GCCF and it does not include the pattern description, it is likely that it will be returned to you for amendment to include the pattern description.

In the long run, this will be a much better system as it will allow us to see what patterns are in our pedigrees as well as what colours.

Thank you for your patience over this matter.

Maine Coons got a new colour class at GCCF Shows, which started on 1st June 2005. Some people are unsure which open class to enter their cat in-

At the GCCF Delegates' Meeting in October 2004, the Maine Coon was granted a new colour split for Open Classes at GCCF shows. This means as of 1st June 2005 there are now separate classes for:

  • Brown Tabby/Blue Tabby with or without white

  •

  • Silver Tabby Series (including blue silver, red silver. cream silver, tortie silver and blue tortie silver) with or without white

  •

  • AOC (Any other colour) to include red tabby series, solids and shadeds - All breed numbers not mentioned in either class above
