David Howe

It is with huge sadness that we announce the sudden death of David Howe on Tuesday 9th April.

Dave was a pivotal part of the running of the Maine Coon Cat Club, tirelessly doing so many different jobs for the benefit of the members. Not only was he the club’s treasurer and membership secretary, doing the job so effectively for many years, he was also the show manager. He was very well known in the wider cat fancy because he took the club stall to so many shows around the country and also helped out on results tables for other clubs. He had been a ring supervisor at The Supreme Show for several years and was always willing to help anyone in any capacity that he could. His death is a huge loss to the Maine Coon Cat Club and he will be missed by so many people.

Personally, this has left us in deep shock. Dave has been our best friend and constant companion for over thirty-five years. We both met him on our first day at work in the 1970s, the three of us all worked together in the labs at a paint factory back then. He was Best Man at our wedding in 1992, he even moved from Durham to Sheffield a few years after we did. We got him involved in the cat world and he adored his cats, Keverstone Starsnstripes and Keverstone Big Al. He has been a major part of our lives for so long and we cannot begin to imagine him not being around any more.

His family were extremely important to him. Our thoughts are with his mother, sister, brother-in-law and nephews and their families, who will all miss him so much. Should anyone wish to send condolences to the family, please email us privately for the address - butters@keverstone.co.uk

The club currently has about 500 members, both in Britain and abroad, including several Maine Coon breeders and judges in America. Membership is open to anyone, you do not have to own a Maine Coon to join. Many of our members do not breed or show, but just enjoy living with a Maine Coon and the club caters for everyone.

The club holds several events each year. We publish three newsletters, as well as holding the club show, and social events. We produce a Maine Coon Calendar each year. Yes, the club even publishes its own calendar, with photos of members’ cats on each page!

Maine Coon becomes GCCF's First Gold Olympian Cat!

The very handsome Jinx has continued his amazing show winning career. Not only did he jointly become the first Bronze Olympian in September 2011, in February 2012, became the first cat to gain the title of Silver Olympian and to round things off, on 16th June 2012, at The Lakeland Cat Club Show, he became the first Gold Olympian titled cat. A very fitting title, since this is the year that the Olympics take place in the UK.

Huge congratulations to Stephen & Jill Bunce
and their beautiful brown tabby & white boy, Jinx on becoming
GOLD OLYMPIAN, UK & IMPERIAL GRAND PREMIER
COONTASTIC NIJINSKY

This is a fantastic achievement for Jinx and the Maine Coon breed.

Our sincere congratulations to his owners and breeders.

LIMITED EDITION SILVER ANNIVERSARY MUG

To celebrate the club’s Silver Anniversary, we have had special commemorative mugs produced especially for the club. Made from porcelain, the front features a beautiful colour illustration of a Maine Coon head, the reverse has wording to celebrate our silver anniversary and on the underside is the club’s logo. They are gold edged, top and bottom. To protect them during transit, they are carefully packed in a specially designed heavyweight cardboard box.

The photo really doesn’t do this mug justice and the illustration looks much more impressive in the flesh. First available at the Maine Coon Cat Club Show, they are now on general sale through the club.

These mugs cost £4.25 boxed from the club table at shows, or can be sent out by post, costing £6.50 including postage.

For more information, please contact David Howe (treasurer) on 0114 2694476 or e-mail him at dhowe@btinternet.com

This is a unique opportunity to have a beautiful mug, showing our lovely breed.
